Campaign Automation
Campaign Automation is a reusable resend rule that automatically resends a campaign — with different subject and content — to recipients who didn't engage the first time, as a multi-step, timezone-aware sequence. You build it once in the Automation Center and attach it to any campaign from that campaign's Advanced tab.
Who it resends to
Every recipient who hasn't clicked yet falls into one of two groups:
- Non-Openers — recipients who received the email but never opened it.
- Opened but Not Clicked — recipients who opened the email but never clicked a link.
Each step has three template slots — Non-Openers, Opened but Not Clicked and Both. Pick a template for one group, a different template for each group, or a single Both template to send the same email to both groups (at least one). Both can't be combined with a group's own template: once one side has a template, the other side is disabled until you clear it. A group with no template is skipped at that step. Under the slots, each step shows which group gets which email.
At every step, each recipient's group is based on the last email of the sequence they received. So someone who clicks an earlier resend stops receiving later ones, a non-opener who opens a resend without clicking moves to Opened but Not Clicked, and someone a step skipped is still eligible for a later step. Anyone who unsubscribed or marked a previous send as spam is excluded too.
Creating an automation
- 1Go to Automations in the sidebar (the Automation Center) and click New Automation.
- 2Name the automation.
- 3Set the timezone each step's send time below will be interpreted in.
- 4Add one or more steps. For each, pick a template for Non-Openers, Opened but Not Clicked, Both, or any combination — the content is copied in at that point, so editing the template afterwards never changes the automation.
- 5Click Save Automation.
Editing or deleting an automation later never changes a campaign that already attached it — each attached campaign keeps its own snapshot of the automation's steps from the moment it was attached.
Attaching it to a campaign
Open a campaign, go to its Advanced tab, and turn on the Campaign Automation section — the campaign must already be saved as a draft before you can attach one. Pick an existing automation from the dropdown, or click Create Automation to jump into the Automation Center and land back on this campaign once you save it.
How steps and timing work
Each step has a delay — the number of days after the source campaign finishes sending — and an optional send time. Delays are absolute offsets from the campaign's completion, not gaps between steps: a 3-step automation with delays of 0, 2, and 5 days is scheduled all at once, for completion +0, +2, and +5 days, and each step fires in order once it comes due.
Leave a step's send time blank and it fires as soon as its delay elapses. Set a send time and the step waits until that clock time, in the automation's timezone, on or after its delay day.
When a step fires, it sends to whoever is still eligible at that exact moment. Each template goes out as its own new campaign, visible in your Campaigns list alongside the original, so each group's opens and clicks are tracked separately. If nobody is eligible for a template when its step fires, nothing is sent for it.
Availability
Campaign Automation can be turned off platform-wide by an administrator. When it's off, the Automations nav item, the Automation Center pages, and the Campaign Automation section on a campaign's Advanced tab are all hidden from every user — but an automation already attached to a campaign keeps firing on schedule regardless.
